Representing Amtgard
[05/06/2002] [Arcana Le Elfriche] I think that people should be smart enough to know how to act in public, whether in person or on a list. People are free to do as they please in this world as long as it doesn't violate local, state and federal laws, but you still have a duty to conduct yourself with a modicum of good taste. I believe sex is a healthy and wonderful thing shared between adults of any sex, in any number, in a private or public forum, such as a sex bar where it's known that sex is why you are there. However, when you meet for your weekly Amtgard meeting, you are more than likely in a public place such as a local park. This is not the place for public displays of sexual debauchery. I went to an event where I walked around a corner and there were three or four guys standing around ogling and fondling some girl's naked breasts. It wouldn't be an issue if they were all standing inside a tent somewhere, but this was not at a closed event and girl scouts and boy scouts were to be visiting. At this same event, there were people so drunk they were puking outside the bathrooms and all over the bathrooms. Girls were running around in shirts with no underwear or pants on. Girls were walking around in broad daylight in soaking wet, white chemises. It's because of this behavior that I won't be attending this event this year. People may want to tell me to mind my own business, but when you are in public it becomes my business and the business of everyone who is witnessing it. When you're a member of Amtgard, it becomes the business of everyone in Amtgard that you're representing. If you want to hang out somewhere and grope each other publicly, then take off your garb and anything else that can associate you with this group. It is possible to be a very sexual, sensual person and still understand that some things are best kept in the bedroom. If you're going to do Amtgard, then behave like you have some common sense and control over your behavior.
