Titles in Amtgard
[05/15/2002] [Bear]

Titles. What do they really mean? Well, I guess it depends on the person. Personally, I think they're kind of a sense of belonging. To someone else, they're power... and to the next person, they're just a another award like a rose or something.

Let's start with the title of lord and lady. Hey, cool - you've made it this far, you've done something cool for your land, and you've earned the title of lord or lady. What do you do with it? You can take a page if you want. If you are really big into roleplaying, you now have something else to roleplay with. It also sounds cool when you get called up in front of court... but, other than that, it's nothing more then an award.

Let's see. There's Baron and Baroness! Hey now, now you have done something REALLY spiffy, like run for a position. It looks like you're becoming a big dog in Amtgard. Now that you have this new title, what are you going to do with it? You can take another page, or even roleplay some more. But, yet again, there's not much you can do with it other than that.

Let's go straight to the top of the food chain to Grand Duke. Sweet. You have been playing the game for a number of years, you have been King or Queen at least twice (if not more). You have turned the land into a great place to play, and you're now a BIG DOG with a bad bite to be reckoned with. Now comes the question: What does the title really do for you? Well, it earns you respect in most people's eyes, because, well, you have worked you ass off to get it. Oh yeah, and you can now have lots of pages if you want.

Cool, huh? But where do you go from here? There's no more titles to earn. Oh wait... there is one. You could always go after that strip of white leather.

The all-mighty knight's belt. The one piece of garb that means nothing in the real world and everything in Amtgard. It means you're one of the best at what you do. Hear's another one of my questions: Which one do you go for? It seems like you have all the prerequisites for the Crown belt by this time and you probably have prerequisites for the Flame belt. But, you think that green is better looking on you so you could go after the Serpent belt. Maybe you're a good fighter on the field. You spent a lot of time as king, but you also have your defender for being a champion. [ Agh! --ed. ] Which belt will it be? Or is a knight's belt just another one of those silly awards that you have so many of already? Like I said, it all depends on the person.

After all those years of being beat up and down the field, you got your knight's belt. [ Agh! --ed. ] Now you can take a squire. Hey, I have an idea - make that page you took into a squire. If they've helped move your things, earned awards that you wanted them to work towards, and been a good person and a friend for a long time, they've earned it. Why don't you give them an award that they can take pride in? And hey, red looks good on just about everyone in Amtgard.

Now you've read my makeshift guide to getting titles and what people might think of them. Go out and have fun and make the best of Amtgard!
