You Have To Piss People Off
[06/27/2002] [Chekers]Amtgard is a game in which there are many different people coming together with many conflicting views on how we need to get things done. There is always going to be someone that gets hurt because you didn't do it their way. Yes, there are things you can do to make as few people mad as possible, though it comes down to this one simple line: wherever there are Amtgarders, there will be politics. Take, for instance, this current Wetlands/BLBOD issue. We all have our points of view on how it should have been handled. No two of them are the same... if you do it one way, these people would've been mad, and if you do it another, these other people would've been mad. Now I'm not saying the BLBOD was right, far from it, but if you want to get something done, you have to do it. You can't spend all of your time worrying that you're going to make somebody mad. You will, no ifs ands or butts. It doesn't matter how benevolent the reason and it doesn't matter how many people you are trying to help. Somebody will misunderstand, get the wrong idea, and get mad. Take this other example. Goldenvale decided to do Big Brother awards. This is where a barony or duchy can give awards to nearby shires. This way, everybody will be able to get the awards they deserve without having to wait for Goldenvale proper to go through everything. Sounds pretty good to me, but wait! Now shires are mad because they weren't asked about it! What about the baronies and duchies who have to do this extra work? Okay, shires, you complain about not getting awards and now you complain about the ability to get them. What gives? And you baronies and duchies, are you working to become a kingdom? You will have to do this work in the future, it's just another step on your way to becoming a kingdom. Now the majority of these groups were not complaining... it's just a few of them who think they are getting blackballed. My point is, no matter what you're trying to do, people will get mad. You still have to do it, though. If any of you have more examples of people getting upset when someone is trying to get something done, please feel free to post them on the forums and we can go over them. And remember, to make an omelette you have to break some eggs and smush 'em and beat them till they are a sticky yellow gooey mess.
