The Accident
[12/31/2002] [News]A Texas woman was killed Friday afternoon in a collision of two vehicles about 13 miles east of Des Moines on U.S. 87. Esther Strohmeyer was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that occurred about 1:30 p.m. Strohmeyer, 27, of Houston, was driving a 2000 Toyota two-door car that collided with a 2001 Ford pickup driven by Casey Goldnapp, 27, of Midland Texas. Goldnapp suffered no injuries, but the passenger in the pickup, Brian Martin, 29, of Austin, Texas, was treated and released at Union County General Hospital in Clayton. According to state police, Strohmeyer was traveling west on U.S. 87 when she attempted to pass another vehicle in front of her. As she was passing, driving in the eastbound lane, Goldnapp's eastbound pickup came around a curve, state police said. Strohmeyer moved her car back to the westbound lane, but it went over the shoulder of the road and she overcorrected, sending the car back into the eastbound lane where it was broadsided by the pickup, state police said.
