Apple Pies and Floating Crowns
[06/01/2003] [jewishjedi]The Floating Crown Kingdom is as American as Apple Pie. Apple pie is the quintessential American dessert. It is featured prominently at Memorial Day, Labor Day, and even the 4th of July. It shows up throughout that great American summer. We eat it with friends and family. It is as American, as well, America. Another thing that is one of our core American values is representative government. ‘Taxation without Representation’ was the cry that lead us to rebel against the English crown. Everyone in our great nation over 18 has a say in who runs our government and how they run it. And everyone has an opinion in how well our elected officials do his or her jobs. From ‘Bush is a moron’ to ‘Bush is fighting terrorism’ to ‘less taxes’ to ‘more education’ can be heard all over our great land. Liberal or conservative, white or black, Jew, Christian, or Muslim, Amtgarder or mundane, we have the ability to run our own government through this representative system. The natural extension of representative government in Amtgard is the floating crown system. In this system, every member of every group in a kingdom gets a say in who runs their kingdom and how they run it. It is the same principle that we’ve all been taught during our twelve years of public schooling over and over again. The same concept fuels hundreds of commercials across the country. The same idea shows up night after night on TV news programs. When it comes down to it, the floating crown kingdoms are an adaptation of the core value of not only American, but of the whole free world. When Amtgarders say that they do not want or need a floating crown kingdom, they are saying that they do not need democracy, they do not need choice, and they do not need freedom. More kingdoms need to switch over to the floating crown system. And more groups at a lower standing than kingdom need to combine their efforts to create a floating crown kingdom in their area. There still needs to be one or two central crown kingdoms to sponsor groups in BFE, but all Amtgarders should one day hope to have a floating crown over their land.
