[08/12/2003] [Sage] The August Forecast (July 29, 2003 to August 27, 2003) The New Moon ruling August takes place July 29, 2003 at 00:53am MDT at 5* 46' Leo. The New Moon in Virgo occurs August 27th, at 11:27am MDT. A Special Note: The time from New Moon to New Moon (called a synodic month) is 29.53 days. Because we started these monthly forecasts with the February 1st New Moon, you'll see the beginning of our Astrological Month slide slowly into the prior Calendar Month. Why does this happen? Because the Solar Calendar we plan our day-to-day lives by does not mesh cleanly with the Lunar Calendar (which fits 13 Moons into the solar year). Thus, the last four days of August will fall within the "September" forecast. Astrology studies the connection of our solar system's orbital mechanics with our daily lives. Newspaper Astrology falsely implies that the Sun is the only important point in the sky. To understand real astrology you need a natal chart (a snapshot of the solar system at the moment of your birth). You can get a good free chart from Astrolabe or Astrodienst. Realize that all the planets and signs are vital, and the interaction of their archetypes is just as complex and varied as we are. Please note that if your Sun (or any planet) is on the cusp between signs, you have a blend of both types of energy. Again, any time you check your horoscope, always read your Moon (needs) sign, Sun (ego) sign, and Ascendant (personality).
For Everyone August is going to be a particularly unusual month. This new moon, we have five (!) planets all in the sign of Leo, which brings phenomenal forward momentum to our lives. Any changes begun last month, especially on the home front, will continue driving right on ahead through August. The obvious danger here is a battle of the wills over what direction to go. Don't let self-aggrandizement or delusions of grandeur ruin your home-life. Give as much praise as you want to receive. Have fun and be playful. Compromise is a good thing, as long as you're still true to your own integrity. This month we've also managed to catch Mars just on the point of turning retrograde. Retrograde motion is when a planet appears to be moving backwards from the perspective of earth's orbit. In this case, it's a time to review and revisit issues of assertiveness, anger, and issues of passive-aggression. Mars retrograde is a difficult time, because it's uncomfortable for all this usually active, forward-thrusting energy to turn in on itself. Be very careful with your temper. Understand that irritability is a sign of issues you need to work out constructively. Taking it out on loved ones will not help your relationships. Aries (Mar 21-Apr 19) Patience is your lesson this month. You will have amazing amounts of energy to get things done. If you plan your work carefully, then you will be able to move mountains. However, lots of obstacles are waiting to trip you up. Stop, look around, and plan your attack before you rush in and land on your face. Taurus (Apr 20-May 20) This month you will feel seen as more truly yourself than in quite a while. You are projecting the rock-like steadiness that defines a large part of your personality. People will still project their issues onto you, and you will probably have to remind them that you can't serve as everyone's solid foundation. Don't be afraid to protect your space. Gemini (May 21-June 20) This month, you have a great opportunity to sit down and translate the intricate details of all the plans you've been making into physical reality. Go slow and let your dreams inform your work. Do be wary of letting exaggeration and unchanneled anger cause unneeded drama. Cultivate skills that build your self-worth. Cancer (June 21-July 22) August brings you more hard work, but you are able to see the first fruits of last month's initiative to better take care of yourself. You'll find yourself better able to communicate your needs and desires now, especially since you and your loved ones can see the work you're doing to cope with your changing life. Leo (July 23-Aug 22) Happy Birthday!!! This month brings conflicting impulses. On one hand, you're almost too busy to stop and breathe. On the other, you want desperately to stop, hang out at home with loved ones, share a pitcher of lemonade, and maybe throw a party. Productivity feels great, but so does relaxation and play. Make an effort to find the balance. Virgo (Aug 23-Sept 22) This month, work will play a greater role in your life than usual. There's a lot of potential for misunderstandings and smoldering resentment if you do not make an effort to talk things out immediately. Do not get invested in other people's perceptions of you; it will cloud your thinking and affect your judgment. Libra (Sept 23-Oct 22) You might feel like taking a break from the spotlight this month. Don't apologize if you do. You've got lots of work to do at home, whether at your house or internally. So much of the challenge of Libra is learning to hold the balance between extremes. Use this time to find your center, and then figure out what you can do to help maintain it. Scorpio (Oct 23-Nov 21) August brings you intense feeling and sensuality. Battles with partners are very likely if you cannot vent the pent-up energy, so embrace your physicality in a safe, fun, caring environment. Risks will present themselves. At work, be especially diplomatic. Surprising your boss with some new innovation is not apt to go over too well. Sagittarius (Nov 22-Dec 21) This month will find you going at super speeds again. Be careful not to get lost, or worse, to burn out. Consider whether your forward momentum serves any purpose besides (the presently bountiful) physical pleasure. Is your spiritual side getting any fulfillment? Financial opportunity is coming soon, but overspending is a huge risk. Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 19) This month you may be dealing with quite a bit of stress on your relationship. You'll be questioning the boundaries between self and other, and determining if the status quo really works for you and your partner. Sex will be energetic and playful, travel will be fun, but fights over money could be serious. Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18) This month finds you with a deep need for love, affection, and romance. You'll put most of your available energy toward your relationships. Don't lose your sense of perspective, though. And don't forget the other areas of your life. It's a good time for dealing with creditors, just be sure to get all the facts straight before you commit. Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20) This month is very much about learning to deal with anger. Old conflicts will come back to haunt you. Do not expect anyone else to understand your frustration. The roots are all within you, and peace will evade you until you complete your soul-searching. Let yourself have fun with a partner.

Barbarians and All Monster Races This month you feel alien, aware that fantasy and reality bear a wide gulf between them. You can't make anyone understand, and you don't get their point of view either. Hold on to what makes it fun. Archers, Scouts, Druids, and Monks More than anything else this month, go out on the field and enjoy yourself. You've got energy, you can hold your own, and you make a worthy opponent. Resist arguments with mother-figures. Garbers and Artisans Your efforts this month will feel more natural when they have something to do with your home or home park. You'll want to try out new methods, but do be careful of repetitive stress injuries.
